The person who has responsibility for the international students sees them daily in either Mandarin classes, during in-class support lesson times or during ESOL lessons. As mentioned previously, we only accept international students who have a Wellington based family appointed guardian with whom we are in regular contact. This network ensures that we are made aware of any grievances easily and early and are able to address them before they become serious concerns.
The procedure is:
- Students are able to talk with the person who has responsibility for pastoral care, directly. In cases where a solution cannot be reached, then the Director of International students is advised.
- Arrangements are made for the student to meet with the Director to discuss the grievance further and to attempt a resolution.
- The guardian is also advised and involved, if necessary.
- In the event of a resolution not being reached, the Director discusses the grievance with the Principal and a meeting is arranged with all parties involved.
- The Board of Trustees is advised if a resolution cannot be reached and it may become involved.
- The final stage of the process is where the student is directed to the International Education Appeal Authority (IEAA). Address: C/- Ministry of Education, Private Bag 47 911, Ponsonby, Auckland.
